The cabin was built before 1941 and was Cabin # 7 in Mary Downey's Shady Rest Resort. The resort had regular customers who would rent the cabins each year, sometimes for as long as a month. Early in the year, Mary would send a postcard to the regulars, with a picture of one of the cabins and the dates available for reservation.
The resort cabins were all sold in the early 1980's, many of them were relocated to separate lots off the lake and others were replaced with new construction. Cabin # 7 is the last Shady Rest Resort cabin still in its original spot on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage.
The current owners renovated the interior in the late 1990's to reflect the historic era of the cabin. Several layers of linoleum were removed to reveal a beautiful Douglas fir floor with lots of character. Updates were made to create a comfortable Northwood's retreat.
